What is a fit model?
A fit model works behind the scenes with fashion designers to perfect the fit of clothing before it goes into production. A fit model, or fitting model, is chosen based on their body measurements and proportions that represent a standard size. It is a fitting model's job to give feedback about the fit, drape and overall feeling of a garment.
What measurements do you need to be a fitting model?
Fitting models come in all shapes and sizes! Luckily the fashion industry is moving in the direction of body inclusivity and is developing a larger range of fits and sizes. Currently the most requested sizes for women are size 4, 6, 1X, and 2X. The most requested sizes for men are Medium/32 and Large/34. Heights for women are typically between 5’6 and 5’8. Heights for men are typically between 5’11 and 6’0. However, there are specific categories such as Petite, Curvy, Big and Tall etc. that require different measurements.
How do I become a fitting model?
Please complete the form under the “Get Scouted” menu page on our website. Or email your current body measurements and photos to info@metricmodels.com. Please include your name and “Model Submission” in the email subject.
How do I take my body measurements?
Before you begin, grab a soft tape measure and find a full length mirror. Measure yourself in your undergarments or in leggings and a fitted top. The most important measurements for submission are your height, bust (or chest for men), waist, low hip, and thigh.
Bust/Chest -Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your bust/chest and around your back. Take a breath in and then out to relax. Keep arms relaxed at sides. Make sure the tape measure is straight and snug.
Waist Measurement - Wrap the tape measure around the smallest part of your waist. You can try bending to the side - find the crease and that is the smallest point. Take a breath in and then out to relax. Make sure the tape measure is straight and snug.
Low Hip - Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your bum. Stand with your heels together. Make sure the tape measure is paralell to the floor and snug.
Thigh - Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your thigh about one inch down from your crotch. Make sure the tape measure is straight and snug.
What photos are best for submissions?
Full body photos in form fitting clothing or swimwear. A white or clean background is preferred. Bonus points for a front, side, and back photo!
